I was planning on doing a 12 month placement but I wasn’t exactly sure where I wanted to work. I did some research on recruitment and realised it was an exciting industry where I could get exposure multiple sectors and develop my commercial skills at the same time.
The DNA of a recruiter matched my strengths as I’m target driven and motivated. I chose to apply to work for Hays because of their industry leading training programme and the meritocratic culture which recognises and rewards success, meaning I could work towards quick career progression.
Working for Hays has been a brilliant experience. The training is fantastic and the internship program provided me with the skills I need for my future career. An internship with Hays requires a lot of hard work, a passion for people and strong ambition to exceed targets. But the job is very rewarding and there is no better feeling than being successful at Hays. I’ve been grateful for the opportunity to work here and I’ll be reapplying to join once I finish university.
I graduated from University and moved to London and secured an administrative role within the private health sector. As much as I enjoyed the job, there was a lack of opportunity for promotion within the business. After seeking advice from friends in the recruitment industry I decided to apply for an Associate Consultant job at Hays.
I applied to Hays because I recognised the brand as the market leading recruitment company. I’d also heard Hays were great at developing their staff and had a positive, energetic and meritocratic culture which sounded like somewhere I could develop a long term career.
Since joining Hays, the experience has exceeded my expectations. Sure, I’ve been challenged, but I’ve felt supported the entire time. The structured training has been really comprehensive and I work with experts in my industry, all of whom support my future success.
I want to know exactly what direction my career is moving in and at Hays I see that every day. I have clear promotion targets, supporting key performance indicators and above all, an excellent management team who back me.
The people I have met at Hays makes coming to work a pleasure. Everyone has a different story to tell and although everyone is naturally very competitive, we work as a team and succeed together. I am looking forward to my review for promotion to Recruitment Consultant, and continuing my career at Hays.
My Hays career started just over two years ago as an Associate Consultant and the time really has flown by. I really enjoy the variety to my position and the level of independence that I have to manage my own workload.
After 12 months of being in the business and solely focussing on creating my own brand and establishing a name for myself in the market, I achieved my first promotion to Recruitment Consultant and my base salary increased by £5,500!
I feel I have developed my own business recruiting for my specialist area in my region. My Manager and my team have continuously encouraged me to be and achieve the best that I can. The progression opportunities at Hays are fantastic. I am aware of what routes I can take to progress my career and more importantly I know exactly what I need to do to get there. I have almost achieved my target to become a Senior Consultant and am expecting a promotion at the end of this month!
I had no commercial experience prior to joining Hays, but what I lacked in sales experience, I made up for with sheer determination and a willingness to build a successful career for myself.
I was promoted from Associate Consultant to Recruitment Consultant and then to Senior Recruitment Consultant within 18 months of starting my career. My promotions were down to the fact that I exceeded all targets set by my management team. I worked hard and my Manager rewarded me for my efforts every step of the way.
Hays has a very meritocratic culture so for someone like me who is naturally competitive and always looking to strive for bigger and better things, the Hays culture was and still is perfectly suited to me!
My promotion to Senior Recruitment Consultant has given me more responsibility in the business. Not only am I on a successful billing desk, I am also heavily involved in supporting and encouraging increased activity levels within my extended team of 22 people.
I have also been introduced to leadership and I mentor new Associates when they first join Hays. People outside of work often ask me what I value most at Hays and the biggest driver for me in the fact that I get out what I put in.
I manage a small team of Education consultants in the Exeter Office, with a focus on Primary Schools. It is a fascinating area to work in, as it is constantly adapting and changing to follow government guidelines and initiatives. I strongly believe that we provide an invaluable service and help ensure that our Primary schools have excellent teachers.
Hays have supported me throughout my career, having come straight from university, reading Law, they offered me extensive training to enhance and progress my development. Three years on, I’m able to pass on my knowledge to my team and help them become successful consultants.
The ethos of Hays is fantastic and hard work is rewarded both financially and socially, with regular team drinks and Summer/Christmas events. This encourages a buzzing and vibrant atmosphere within the office with everyone pulling together and working towards a personal and team goal. It has been an exceptional three years with Hays and I look forward to many more.
I was born and raised in Liverpool, and after university I was keen to stay local but still work for a FTSE 250 company. So after I graduated with a business studies degree at Liverpool University in 2008 I joined Hays.
My goal has always been to manage a team and after achieving significant growth on my own desk, I seized the opportunity to mentor an Associate Consultant before taking full responsibility for my own team two years ago.
Establishing and driving a high performing culture has seen the team grow from three to five people in a short period of time. I’ve found the role of Manager in recruitment a challenging but highly rewarding career path to take. You have direct accountability for delivering and exceeding a yearly team budget whilst maintaining very high standard of personal billing.
I have worked for Hays for over fourteen years and wouldn’t work for any other recruitment company – when you work for the best, why would you? Hays have supported and developed me in both a personal and career capacity and have allowed me to exceed my own expectations in regards to how far I expected my career to go when I left college. I have had some excellent opportunities including managing the Glasgow and Edinburgh Office Support divisions and my current role as Senior Manager of our 14 consultants in Hull.
I have responsibility for the achievement of a budget of £2m which is more than the Managing Directors of some of our clients. The culture at Hays totally fits my ‘work hard, play hard’ mentality and getting out what you put in means I have been able to develop my career quickly. My specialist area is recruiting for temporary Accountancy and Finance roles although I also oversee our Education, Office Support, Construction and Property, and HR divisions which means no two days are the same.
I started my career in recruitment in 2003. I wanted a progressive, challenging and rewarding career and this is exactly what I have experienced at Hays, it’s the best decision I have made.
I began my career as an Associate Consultant in Bristol working within our Construction & Property specialism, initially focusing on the Mechanical & Electrical market. I went on to hold various roles managing business units and also managing teams across multiple specialisms.
Through my hard work, determination and desire for success (I’m very competitive!), I went on to fast track to Regional Director within the South West region. Now I am responsible for a team of 80+ consultants within 3 of our key offices across 10 specialisms.
I still enjoy the satisfaction from building long lasting relationships and delivering world class service to our customers, and I thrive off helping support our consultants to achieve their ambitions too.
