Glassdoor Best Places to Work Award 2017

Why being the best place to work matters

This week we’ve been announced as the top recruiter in Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work Awards 2017. It is an award I’m incredibly proud of as the judges in this instance are our employees, past and present, which gives it even more clout. Not only are we the number one recruiter, but we are also ranked number five out of the top 50 employers – listed alongside companies like Google, Salesforce, and Microsoft.

From over 1,200 reviews on Glassdoor we are doing well. We first got involved with Glassdoor because we have an open and meritocratic culture and decided we didn’t have anything to lose. Nothing that appears on Glassdoor should be a shock and so far that’s been the case because we have so many other feedback mechanisms in place. It hasn’t always been rosy and we’ve had our share of negative reviews but on the whole, the stats say it all.

  • 72% of our reviewers have had a positive interview experience with us
  • 92% say they will recommend us to a friend
  • 97% approve of our CEO

This is impressive feedback in addition to our recent award win!

But, it isn’t just about a pat on the back for us and an award to show that our efforts are worthwhile. To be the best recruiter to work for also offers immense benefits for our customers. It means our clients and candidates get to work with consultants who receive industry-leading training, are experts in their field, and who not only want to do well for themselves, but who also want to excel for our customers. It means our customers get to work with recruiters who stay working at Hays for years – many of our directors have supported people from their first job through to C-suite positions.

From day one our employees are given the support they need to do well in their careers, which translates into a high-performance culture and excellent service delivery for our clients and candidates. Our employees receive extensive training from our experienced in-house team. For example, we have fast track schemes to leadership positions, programmes to support new people managers and coaching opportunities. We are also working towards the National Equality Standard, which shows our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. Awards such as this, along with similar recognition of our graduate and internship opportunities from The Job Crowd and Rate My Placement, show that our employees recognise the positive impact this level of commitment has on their careers.

Leaders today need to listen to their workforce and take action. We take all the feedback we receive seriously and are always striving to improve and ensure we remain the best place to work. I would like to thank everybody who provided the reviews and helped us to achieve this award. Well done to everybody at Hays, being the best matters!
